“A Gift for Amma” is a gorgeously narrated book with vivid lyrical text. I love how the main character explores the marketplace in India to find a suitable gift for her Amma.
The lovely colours and illustrations of items in the market will invite readers to further investigate beyond the book. I love how the onomatopoeic words are used in this story. It added great effect and a sense of being in the market with the narrator.
All I can say about this story is that it is full of love and it's a perfect book to celebrate culture, family, and tradition. I enjoyed reading the illustrated glossary which describes the markets from around the world. The memorable moment reading this book is to see the author, Meera Sriram’s personal photographs at the outdoor markets.
