Here are some of my favourite books that can be used for Reader's Workshop, ideally in Grade 3:

How to Eat Fried Worms by Thomas Rockwell

- About a boy who refuses to lose a bet

- A book sure to capture striving readers

- Lots of opportunities to discuss comprehension strategies

Snot Stew by Bill Wallace

- A tale of two stray kittens’ journey with their moms

- Teaches us how we can learn to adapt to a new environment

- Great for teaching inferring strategies

My Father’s Dragon by Ruth Stiles Gannett

- A fantasy novel about a boy trying to rescue a baby dragon

- Great adventures and great visuals
