Today I had a moving experience sharing the book “Grief is an Elephant”, with my students. The classroom fell into a titalt silence as we explored the poetic tale of an Asian girls journey through grief.
The book beautifully portrays the transformation of grief—from an overwhelming elephant to a deer, a cunning fox, a tiny mouse and finally the smallest firefly.🐘🦌🦊🐭✨
Grief is something all humans experience, crossing borders and societal norms. It’s heavy, like an elephant, when it first hits. But as time passes, it changes, becoming lighter and more manageable. This narrative helps children visualise and comprehend this emotion teaching them that immense loss reflects love.
Reading this story to my students served as a reminder that those who leave us never truly depart from our hearts.
