Harlem Grown

What an inspiring story!!! Many of my class kids are inspired by Tony Hillery. He was a volunteer at a public elementary school in Harlem. His vision to make the world a little better spread like wildfire in the city of Harlem. It all began when his students inspired him to transform a "haunted garden" into a thriving farm. I love to see the community spirit that he has instilled in everyone living in that area. Stories that promote life lessons are always appealing. In this story, my class kids learned that not everything works out the way you planned, they have to try new ways to make the garden a success.

If you are thinking of a gardening project in your school, this is a great book to share as it shows all the steps involved in gardening.
