Not An Easy Win

This is an excellent middle-grade novel! 'Not an Easy Win' by Chrystal D. Giles captivated me from start to finish. This heartfelt tale is full of lovable characters, each embarking on a journey of self-discovery, resilience, and the compelling notion that we truly need one another, particularly in the face of adversity.

The protagonist, 12-year-old Lawrence, immediately won me over with his relatable voice. Through his struggles and triumphs, I found myself rooting for him wholeheartedly. As we follow Lawrence's quest, we discover that chess, much like life itself, rarely guarantees an easy win. The parallels between the challenges on the chessboard and those he encounters in real life are beautifully intertwined.

Not an Easy Win' is an empowering and thought-provoking read. It beautifully illustrates the importance of perseverance, growth, and the indomitable human spirit. I highly recommend this book to readers of all ages who seek a captivating, relatable story that reminds us of our shared humanity and the strength found in unexpected places.
