Nikki Grimes the word wizard has done it again! She has used the Golden Shovel form of poetry to elevate the true value of African-American people in Harlem – all the poems are about the trials and tribulations of people facing difficulties such as racism and hate. The message I get from these beautiful poems is that we have to practice a little bit of compassion, a little bit of patience and a little bit of perseverance – with that love and joy will emerge.
