I had left this book on my library shelf for quite some time, thinking it was too simple to read to my class. However, I didn’t realize the profound impact it would have on some of my students. “Two Homes, One Heart” is a true mirror, window, and sliding door for many children in my classroom. Several students have opened up to me about their experiences with their parents’ separation, leading to insightful conversations about the challenges they face.
The process of separation or divorce can be overwhelming and emotional for everyone involved children who often feel like their lives have been turned down. This book reassures them that despite living in homes they are cherished equally by both parents. It provides guidance to parents on supporting their children in expressing and navigating their feelings..
Reading “Two Homes, One Heart” together can help children understand and cope with divorce. Books like this provide the right words to explain complex situations and offer comfort, allowing children to return to them whenever they need reassurance. I highly recommend reading this book with your child, even if they can read alone, and encouraging them to ask as many questions as they want.
As a teacher, I am grateful for the opportunity to discuss such important issues through books, and I am happy to support my students in this way.
